TECHNICAL SESSION CONDUCTED BY ‘CEETA’
The College of Engineering Trivandrum Alumni had conducted a Technical Session by Engr. K.C.Vijay kumar as part of their regular programmes / family get-togethers. The Session started with the Presidential Address by Engr. Sasidharan.
Being a family programme, the session was more general in nature, though one of the subject was purely Technical. After, the gathering and as usual, the family members were served with a buffet dinner.
Excerpts
from the session:
1) Childhood Education
** Learning is a process – It takes place in 6 levels
First, Teaching Process - The Teacher Teaches…
Second, Listening Process - The Student Listens…
Third, Understanding Process - The Student Understands…
Fourth, Absorption Process - The Student Absorbs…
Fifth, Assimilation Process - The Student Assimilates…
And finally,
Sixth, Reproduction Process - The Student Reproduces
during exams…
**“Nobody is Perfect in this world. Then, why some turn out to be
successful and others fail?”
- Well, the answer lies in ‘SWOT ‘ Analysis.
‘S’ for Strength, meaning their strength in a particular subject as far as students are concerned.
‘W’ for Weakness, on the contrary…
‘O’ for Opportunity, that is, any type of tests….as far a student is concerned
and ‘T’ for Threat – ie. Competition from the peers…
-
A student would be successful only if he / she understands and analyses these
parameters on a regular basis with the help of the parents.
** Need for ‘CYCLIC PRACTICE’
- Generally children adopt traditional revision, which is chapter by chapter. This has got a major draw back. They tend to forget as they go along…Therefore, a method called ‘Cyclic Practice’ is suggested. It is very simple. If the student revise/practice sums from, say, the first maths chapter on the first day, he/she should do practice from the second chapter, the next day. This would help them to cycle thro’ the portions on a regular manner, which make them familiar with all the portions always
* ‘ZERO ERROR’ Principle
- Well, as the term indicates, It means error should be zero! (PERFECTION TO THE CORE!) On the other hand, there should not be mistakes of any kind while a child answers a question, especially careless mistakes!! It should be routed out in the bud itself. There are numerous methods for that, all of which aim at registering in the mind of the child that “it is better for him/her to write correctly in the first instance itself, that doing and re-doing”
* ‘OVER CONFIDENCE’
- Yes, a well known ‘cancerous disease’ among one and all, especially children. Parents shall identify such ‘cancerous’ growths in children in the early stages itself, or else it may become uncontrollable.
NOTE:
Dear Parents and other readers,…. These are only some of the important points to be noted and emphasized as part of Childhood Education. Anybody who is interested in getting more info.to enable them to guide their children may pl. get in touch with Mr. k.c.vijay kumar (ph. 709142, 9354172).
2)
Telecommunication
The purpose of the second session was to make the audience familiar with the various terminologies used in Telecom field. Now a days, Telecom technology is growing so fast, that it is better to know the meaning of the literal / implied meaning of the commonly used words.
Accordingly, the speaker gave a general description of:
* Satellite Technology
* GSM
* WLL
* Paging
* Microwave Technology
* ISDN etc.
Electronics and Communication, especially with specialization on Transmission would be a very interesting and very demanding field in future. Parents of children aiming for engineering filed may please make a note of this fact!
ps: comments are welcome!
